New Mexico, the Quantum State

If you’re a scientist, engineer, or postdoc working on breakthrough quantum research, you’ve likely asked yourself what it would take to turn your breakthrough ideas into a real company. Not a research paper or a prototype, but a funded, scaling startup that’s solving customer pain points, attracting venture capital, and moving the field forward.
If that sounds familiar, this may be your moment.
The State of New Mexico just made a $25 million investment on quantum commercialization, and we’re proud to say that Roadrunner Venture Studios has been selected to lead it.
Together with national labs, top-tier venture capital firms, pioneering quantum technologists, and an academic institution, we’re going to build something unprecedented in New Mexico. Our coalition will deliver a full-stack company creation engine in Downtown Albuquerque’s Innovation District surrounded by a quantum campus set to go live in 2026.
If you’re a founder looking to launch your startup, attract capital, and turn quantum ideas into a scalable business, we want to hear from you as soon as possible. Through our coalition, here’s what you will be able to access:
- A dedicated quantum venture studio with funding, extensive founder support, and a company creation model tailored to deep tech.
- A quantum-specific Founders-in-Residence (FIR) program designed for lab scientists, multi-time founders, and post-docs.
- A lab-embedded entrepreneurship program inspired by the lab’s LEEP program in partnership with Sandia National Labs and Los Alamos National Lab.
- A multi-fridge cryogenics lab for ultra-low-temperature testing ran by Maybell.
- Live, deployable quantum networks running entanglement-based communications across fiber-optic cables in Albuquerque ran by Qunnect.
- Optical and laser testbeds open for experimentation and integration ran by QuEra.
- A packaging facility, rapid prototyping center, and quantum demonstration facility in tandem with Elevate Quantum.
- A new capital network for New Mexico-based quantum companies led by top venture firms with over $6 billion in assets under management and deep technical root including DCVC, Playground Global, and Quantonation.
This isn’t just another incubator or accelerator. It will be full-service company creation infrastructure designed for hard science and committed builders. And it’s a community of peers whose ambition, skills, and vision will inform and support one another.
At Roadrunner, we’ve spent the last 18 months refining a methodology for deep tech commercialization. Now, with this award, we’re applying that system to quantum. Think of it as building something akin to the “Lean Startup Method” built just for quantum, in partnership with the most formidable quantum organizations in the country.
We believe the next wave of great American quantum companies won’t emerge by accident. To build them, we need to build intentionally, collaboratively. If this sounds like the opportunity you’ve been waiting for, here’s who we’re looking for:
- Scientists and engineers with a commercially viable idea in quantum
- Postdocs and grad students ready to transition from research to building
- Founders or early-stage teams in quantum networking, hardware, error correction, sensing, photonics, secure comms, or beyond
- People with the ambition to build a business and the courage to do it outside the usual tech hubs
We’re recruiting quantum founders now, and we’re building for the long-term. Together, we will create the companies that America needs. And we’ll do it boldly, inclusively, and grounded in science.
